Paraffin Wax versus Natural (Soy, Bees and Plant/Palm) Wax

Paraffin Wax

  • Derived from petroleum which is one of the biggest environmental contributors of carbon dioxide.
  • Contains up to 11 Carcinogen compounds that are toxic air contaminants. These include but are not limited to: Acetaldehyde, Acrolein, Benzene, Formaldehyde, Polychlorodibenzo-p-dioxins, Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons and Toulene.
  • Must be blended with other chemicals to release fragrances.
  • Releases toxic fumes that are similar to those found in auto exhaust.
  • Relatively short burning and drips excessively.
  • Produces a disorganized light spectrum very similar to old-fashioned incandescent bulbs.
  • Produces toxic petrol-soot that eventually stains all interior surfaces.
  • Typically contains artificial fragrances and colours which also produce toxins and stains when burned.
  • Difficult to remove from cloth or containers.
  • May trigger respiratory irritation due to the allergenic ingredients found in paraffin.
  • Causes poor indoor air quality.
  • Using paraffin encourages the discovery, collection, refinement, distribution and consumption of crude oil.
  • Vegans and animal lovers should be aware that paraffin candles are made with animal-based stearic acid (an animal-derived fat from meatpacking plants).

Soy Wax

  • 100% non-toxic & all natural Soy (made from soybean oil, extracted from soya beans).
  • Biodegradable and free from pesticides and herbicides.
  • Not tested on animals.
  • Non-allergenic.
  • Smokeless and soot-free.
  • Longer, cooler and cleaner burning.
  • Containers are reusable.
  • Wax spills can easily be cleaned up with hot soapy water (great news for families with children or pets). You can burn soy wax candles without fear of curious little fingers tipping wax onto your favorite tablecloth, as any soy wax spillages can easily be washed out using just soap and water.
  • Melt pool can be used to moisturise the skin.
  • Releases fragrances naturally, faster, longer.

Beeswax

  • 100% natural fuel created by bees.
  • Burns cleaner and longer and does not drip.
  • Smokeless and soot-free.
  • Emits bright light that has the same light spectrum as the sun.
  • Emits negative ions that actually clean the air by getting rid of odours, pollens, smoke, dust, dust mites, viruses and other allergens and hazards.
  • Invigorates the body as it helps to stimulate the puritary gland.
  • Naturally scented by the honey and nectar of flowers packed into the honeycomb within the beehive.

Plant Wax

  • All-natural renewable, sustainable and biodegradable resource that is obtained from palm oil.
  • Free of petrol chemical content.
  • Burns cleaner and longer.
  • Smokeless and soot-free.
  • Melting point is much higher than paraffin.
  • Non-allergenic.
  • Due to its environmentally friendly attributes, plant wax offers a whole new choice for candle makers who market sustainable or renewable resource based extensions to their candle lines.
  • Can easily be cleaned up with hot soapy water.
